These 35 States Will Experience Heavy Flooding This Year

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), has confirmed that 35 out of the 36 states in Nigeria, will experience heavy flooding this year, and as expected, Lagos is one of them.
The flood alert was announced by the Acting Director-General of the agency, Mr. Olayinka Ogunwale, who also stated that the Federal government had been issuing warnings to residents in flood-bound areas to relocate from such locations before the sea surge can cause any sort of damage to lives and properties.
Speaking during the unveiling of the 2018 Annual Flood Outlook, the Federal Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Suleiman Adamu confirmed that the government is putting several measures in-place to prevent a lethal flooding case like the 2012 flooding tragedy.
Mr Adamu disclosed that the government is applying finishing touches to the construction of the Kashimbilla Dam, which was designed to contain an overflow from Lake Nyos. He also added that the government had adopted measures such as flood mapping, flood vulnerability studies, flood sensitization and awareness campaigns.
Though he did not explicitly state the flood prone state, members of the public living in areas like Lagos Island, will definitely be bracing up for another flooding experience.
