Beverly Johnson has announced her engagement to Brian Maillian.
The former supermodel, 67, is set to tie the knot with the 70-year-old financier who she lives with in Rancho Mirage, California.
Brian got down on one knee and popped the question while at a family event in Palm Springs.
After Beverly’s older sister teased him about not asking for her hand in marriage yet, Brian insisted that he didn’t have a ring.
With that, Brian’s 88-year-old mother took off her wedding ring and passed it to her son so that he could make the engagement official. Opening up about the special moment, Beverley told People Magazine that she burst into an uncontrollable crying fit.
“My older sister Sheilah was there and she said to Brian, ‘I didn’t hear you give my sister an answer when she asked you to marry her” the star detailed.
She continued: “Brian’s 88-year-old mother took off her wedding ring and passed it down the table till it got to Brian and he got down on one knee. I was sobbing uncontrollably and he said ‘Will you marry me?’ and I said yes!”
After Brian placed the precious ring on his love’s hand, her soon-to-be mother-in-law made her day when she insisted that Beverley should wear the band for the remainder of the day.
Beverely, who made history when she was the first black woman to appear on the cover of Vogue back in 1974, previously enjoyed two marriages.
She wed real estate agent Billy Potter in i971, but the pair later divorced three years later in 1974 . Then in 1977, at the tender age of 25, she tied the knot for the second time with music producer Danny Sims.
One year later, Beverley and Danny welcomed their daughter, Anansa Sims, 41 .
