Actress Toyin Abraham has spoken on the new role she is playing in the fight against Coronavirus in Nigeria, especially since the NCDC denied Funke Akindele.
A few weeks after the outbreak of the pandemic in Nigeria, Toyin Abraham announced her volunteer engagement with the NCDC to pass information and educate the citizens through her page, while the NCDC used its ambassador Funke Akindele in partnership with Dettol Nigeria for the Washing Hands project.
After Funke Akindele’s house party and arrest, however, Dettol Nigeria denied her being its ambassador, saying it only partnered with NCDC for the project with her. NCDC too demoted the embattled actress and has not taken Toyin Abraham to replace her. This, led to some glitch and one way or the other, some trolls condemned Toyin Abraham for taking advantage of Funke Akindele’s situation to be the NCDC ambassador. Some others warned her not to make the mistake of throwing a house party, like the former ambassador did. Speaking about the role, the Alakada star took to her Instagram page to debunk the allegations and rumors of being the NCDC’s new ambassador, saying she does not like the narrative of taking advantage of a bad situation. She added that she is only supporting the campaign against Coronavirus which should not lead to dragging of another person to the floor.
In a statement she put out through her publicist Sam Olatunji, she said, “It has just been brought to my attention that blogs are reporting that I am now NCDC ambassador. Implying that I have been used to replace a colleague. That line of thought necessitate I put this out there. I am not an ambassador to NCDC. I do not like the narrative that I am trying to take advantage of a bad situation. I support the campaign against Covid-19, I appeared on a video campaign against the pandemic but please let’s not drag another person down. Thank you. Signed: Toyin Abraham @toyin_abraham.“
