Herdsmen Saga! Ebonyi State Governor Ban Herdsmen From Grazing In An Entire Local Government Area

The governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, was forced yesterday to ban grazing temporarily after the incident which led to serious injury, as a result of the clash between farmers and herdsmen in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
It was reported that herdsmen from Mpu in Enugu invaded farmlands in Akaeze and destroyed farm crops, which angered the farmers. The result of the incident left fours persons from both sides severely injured. Three herdsmen sustained various degrees of head injuries, while one of the farmers sustained machete cuts on various part of his body.
It was gathered that the injured farmer is receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward Of The Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) While the injured herdsmen are receiving treatment at a hospital in Agwu. The governor placed a ban on grazing on the entire Local Government Area until investigation on the matter was concluded.
He said “you bring animals in by vehicles because there are no cattle routes in this state, there is no grazing reserve in Ebonyi, and there is no colony here”.
“You cannot come into somebody’s farm without his permission, you can’t do that. Any Fulani man that destroys the farm of a farmer will go to jail for 5 years and pay for the cost of the farmland.Any cattle that goes into farmland should be arrested immediately and anybody that kills the cow of a Fulani man should go to prison for five years and also pay for the cattle” he concluded.Photo Credit: Getty
