Fabregas, Alonso and Morata pioneered an impressive boxing day victory for the defending champions as they ended the 2017 calender year on a high with a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Brighton Albion.
The Blues seemed set to repeat their wasteful performance that earned them a 0-0 draw against Everton. They had a series of chances in the first half, but Bakayoko single handedly wasted a good number of them. Brighton’s defensive resilience compounded Chelsea’s misery, but the host rediscovered their morale in the second half when Alvaro Morata open the scoring in the 46th minute. Alonso readily punished the visitors few minurtes later for a defensive error that saw him unmarked and on-side.
Eden Hazard was a source of sorrow for the visitors, as he ploughed them assunder from different sides of the pitch before he was substituted for Willian in the closing minutes of the match. Chelsea retain the 3rd position on the leabgue table, with 42 points from 20 games.
