Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has said he is not concerned about the ongoing struggle for the leadership of the coming ninth National Assembly. Dogara stated that the House still had three months to focus on urgent legislative tasks like the 2019 Appropriation Bill, among others. The Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, in a statement on Sunday dismissed the reports of the struggle by lawmakers as speculations. The statement read, “The life of the current House still lasts for the next three months and there are many pending issues before the House which need urgent legislative attention, including the 2019 Appropriation Bill. The Speaker is concentrating on accomplishing all he promised in the legislative agenda of the House of Representatives. Who becomes what in the 9th House of Representatives is not the concern or business of the current Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.” Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena, has said the All Progressives Congress had yet to zone the leadership positions of the forthcoming 9th Assembly. Alimikhena said, “The media reports on the issue of zoning are not correct. The party has not zoned any position to any zone. I am confident that all the zones will be adequately represented in the ninth National Assembly leadership.”Photo Credit: Getty
