With 188 Recorded Cases, Borno Asks Churches And Mosques To Open
Borno State Government has ease the total lockdown hitherto imposed, giving religious centres the go ahead to operate despite having 188 recorded case of COVID-19.
The NCDC had given its daily report as at 11:55pm yesterday Wednesday, revealing that the state has a total of 188 cases, ranking 6th on the list of the states with the highest cases.The State Deputy Governor who doubles as the Chairman of the State COVID-19 Task Force Umar Kadafur announced the ease order noted that churches and mosques in the state should reopen and hold services regardless, with the obligation, however, to maintain physical distancing during their services and other safety and preventive measures strictly. He added that the ease does not apply to public gatherings as only 20 people are expected to gather for events such as funeral processions, weddings, naming ceremonies.

He then noted that the government will not hesitate to impose another total lockdown if the COVID-19 situation escalates. “Henceforth, Jumma’at prayers and five daily prayers shall be observed in all mosques as recommended by the Borno State Council of Ulamas in strict adherence with social distancing and the use of face masks. All churches shall conduct church services as recommended by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Borno Chapter in strict adherence with social distancing and use of face masks. Government has considered the recommendation of the Borno State Council of Ulamas which clearly states that Eid prayers is Sunnah (non obligatory), hence there should be no Eid prayers. Faithfuls should remain at home during the period.
