WCW: How Lola Rae Broke The Heart Of ‘Billionaires’ To Welcome 1st Child With A Broke Singer!

Lola Rae is our woman crush for being the kind of girl every man will be willing to do anything it takes to have as girlfriend or wife.

Rachel Akosua Funmilola Garton, well known as Nigerian singer and dancer Lola Rae, is just 27, and she is of Ghanaian and British descent. She had her primary and secondary school education in Lagos, before moving to England when she was just 15, to complete her university studies in fashion textiles at Central Saint Martins (CSM), a public tertiary art school in London.
Lola Rae started her career as a member of dance group Mystikal, which auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2010, and they made it throught to the semifinals. They group was later signed to Syco – a British entertainment company founded by Simon Cowell – for a year, before Lola decided to pursue a solo career in music. In 2013, she was rated as one of the most promising female act to watch, following the release of her debut single, “Watch My Ting Go.” The video for the song that was released in January 2013, had cameo appearances from Iyanya and Emma Nyra, and it was nomination as “Most Gifted Newcomer” at the 10th Channel O Music Video Awards.
Lola Rae then went missing ‘in action’ for several months, until a close ‘working relationship’ with Davido’s HKN Gang brought her to limelight for a second time – the label at the time houses rich-kids-turned-musicians including Davido himself, Sina Rambo, B-Red and Danagog. Then Lola Rae was rumored to be having secret romance with Davido or one of his cousins/friends as she was the only known female in the circle before they made the BILLION statement official.
Davido later announced Lola Rae as his new label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) First Lady on November 5, 2016, in a tweet that reads: “LOLA RAE WELCOME TO DMW!!!!! 1ST LADY!!!!,” and they both teamed up for her song, “Biko.” Following Davido’s shocking split frrom former manager, Kamal Ajiboye, the international pop star granted an interview with BeatFM in 2017, where he set the record straight saying, “My only artistes are Mayorkun, Dremo and Yonda. Lola Rae and Dammy Krane are not signed to me, there is no contract, but we are all family.”
Our findings revealed that Lola Rae was signed to Kamal Ajiboye’s Twenty20 Media while he was still Davido’s manager, and his dismissal from the billion gang circle, changed a lot of things for the young and pretty singer. Lola Rae started dating singer and producer Tekno in the first quarter of 2017. 25-year-old Augustine Miles Kelechi, popularly known by his stage name Tekno Miles, was one of the biggest Nigerian music stars at the time, with his hits including “Pana,” “Where,” “Samantha,” and “Rara”. Their pair’s romance has produced a baby named Skye, and the Nigerian internet has been buzzing with people criticizing Lola Rae for putting her music career on hold to have a child. “He (Tekno) made you stay away from your music to have a baby but he stayed back to push his hustle,” said Noble Igwe, a popular Nigerian media personality.
We believe Lola Rae should be celebrated for going against all odds to become a mother, and she can now focus on her music career. Some of the biggest names in music including Beyonce and Adele have before now, go on breaks over childbirth reasons and their careers didn’t end there. We wish you the best on this new journey Lola Rae, you deserve some accolades!
