UEFA Champions League Review: Chelsea 3-3 AS Roma

Memories of Chelsea’s invincible clean-sheet streak last season seem to be a thing of the past as the Champions of England conceded 3-easy goals in their Champions league clash against AS Roma on Wednesday.
Luiz scored the first goal of the blues with a rocket shot from outside the box. Juan Jesus intercepted Luiz first attempt but a poor clearance by the defender left the ball at the mercy of Luiz, who raced to it before slamming it into the net.
Roma got a clear chance to equalize when an overlapping Marcos Alonso gave Kevin Strootman the chance to cross the ball deep into Chelsea’s half, the ball found Radja Nainggolan who slammed Roma’s first shot-on-target at Chelsea’s post, only to be denied by an impressive save from Thibaut Courtois.
The Blues took advantage of another counter-attack as Hazard burst into a furious race with the ball at his feet after stealing the ball from Bruno Peres before finding Alvaro Morata, who looped the ball over Federico Fazio to give Hazard a one-on-one chance. The Belgian made Roma pay dearly as he reeled the ball past Alisson to score his first champions league goal since March 2015.
It didn’t take long Roma to detect Chelsea’s defensive weakness and they pounced on it in the 40th and 64th minute to draw level. They seemed to have crowned the comeback when Kolarov reeled the ball past an overlapping Azpilicueta, before swaying his way around Andreas Christensen to slot the ball beyond Courtois’s reach. Roma seized the initiative after the goal and their morale paid-off when Fazio crossed the ball into Chelsea’s half in the 64th minute to find Dzeko who pulled away from Christensen to send his volley into Chelsea’s net.
Chelsea’s third defeat in a row was avoided when Pedro got a rare chance to send a superb cross to Hazard for the Belgian to score his first champions league header for Chelsea as they drew level in the 75th minute.
