Twitter Suspension Benefited Nigeria – Festus Keyamo

Nigeria’s state minister for Labour Festus Keyamo has reacted to the lifting of the Twitter ban by the federal government in the early hours of this morning after its suspension for 7 months.

The state minister took to the platform to share that Nigeria is better off with all its conditions agreed by the microblogging platform. He noted that many citizens prioritized politics over patriotism and exhibited disingenuous righteousness on Twitter suspension but now Nigerians and the citizens are better off after the social media platform agreed to its condition. He further congratulated Nigerians on the new era.

The Federal Government had suspended Twitter in Nigeria on June 4, 2021, after accusing the platform of enabling the spread of fake news and hate speech that undermined national security. The ban was announced days after the platform deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari referencing the Nigerian civil war.
