The Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System, also known as Lagos BRT, is a bus rapid transit system in Lagos State, which is regulated by LAMATA. The first phase of the Lagos BRT was opened on the 17th of March,2008, although it was initially slated for opening in November 2007.

The initiative to build the system was initiated by the government of the previous governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It goes through various routes like Mile 12 through Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue up to CMS. Over time, the BRT routes and corridors have been increased and the number of buses keeps rising. One high point of the BRT is the little transport fare it charges for long-distance.

A lot of Lagosians have been grateful for this moving opportunity because it has helped to reduce the cost of transportation in the state. Looking at the transport growth of Lagos, one can say that the state and its various governments have improved because these buses have aided decrease in congestion and increase in connections. Lagos is known as one of the most populated cities in Nigeria because of the job opportunities and its urban-like areas. In fact, the state is known as a megacity where the big boys reside. With the inception of the BRT buses, the state is really up to its name and expectation.

An increase in population generates increasing travel demand and such is the case of the center of excellence. From the use of bikes, which have been banned from entering a lot of places in the state to the use of Keke, which doesn’t sit and carry more than four people, to Danfos; Now Danfos carried the highest number of passengers until BRT stepped in and a lot of people grabbed the tickets because while Danfo charged high transport fare, BRT regulated the transport fare aiding the cost of living and enabling people to move from their homes to their desired destinations at a cheaper rate.
