A topless barmaid who used to pull in £400 a night in TIPS is thinking of quitting because her regulars don’t carry cash any more. Jenna Veuve regularly earned a fortune during her eight-hour shifts as a “skimpy” barmaid serving miners and farmers in rural Western Australia.
But now the beauty has revealed most of her customers now pay by card or even on their watch and phone – leaving her well out of pocket. On a good night she is now lucky to pick up about £120 in tips compared to “back in the day”, the fed-up blonde told Perth Now. “The advice I have been given is just to ask the guys to get cash out for tips, but it feels a bit awkward to ask that,” she said. In 2015, Jenna decided to take on topless waitressing for private parties before trying the well-paid bar work. The bar girls – who call themselves ‘skimpies’ – serve drinks in rural pubs in remote towns wearing nothing but lingerie.
Small communities like Kalgoorlie attract hundreds of lonely farmers and miners earning six-figure salaries. Jenna recently returned to the town on a three-week “working holiday” for Brief Encounters skimpy agency, but said it was not what she expected. “Everyone is still really accepting … but there is just less cash because we are this cashless society now, especially with the younger generation,” she said. “Some people say women hate skimpies, but in this town they like us just as much as the boys.” Hannans Hotel manager Tracy Julin said she had also noticed a decline in patrons using cash at her bar.
