A day after the Service of Songs was held for Nollywood actress Rachel Oniga and on the same day she is to be laid to rest finally, the Nigerian movie industry lost one of its finest again. Tinsel star Victor Olaotan, popularly known as Big Daddy has lost the battle of life to the cold hands of death after a prolonged illness.
The veteran Victor Olaotan had been bedridden for five years after he was involved in a ghastly accident along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. The actor was driving to a movie set in 2016 when the accident took place around Apple Junction, in Festac, Lagos and since then, he had been fighting for his life.Following the accident, Victor Olaotan was placed in a medically induced coma as he was treated for months. Doctors were saying there is a possibility he could lose both his two legs if he could not get $50,000 for treatment abroad. This, he had been seeking for years and with the intervention of Femi Otedola and some other Nigerians, he was flown abroad.
Just recently, in February, his wife cried out for help, revealing that the actor still needed $70,000 as the Turkey hospital where he was undergoing treatment for the effects of a traumatic brain injury he suffered after the has threatened to throw him out. He was flown back to Nigeria as the family could no longer shoulder his medical expenses abroad. His condition deteriorated and has led to his death, ending the years of pains.The wife of the 69-year-old actor, who is best known for his role as Fred Ade-Williams in the popular TV series, Tinsel, Julia Olaotan, reportedly broke the news of his death to PREMIUM TIMES this morning. According to the media, Mrs Olaotan said she is grateful that the 69-year-old actor can finally go to rest after suffering for years. “He has tried. It is not easy to be trapped in your own body for five years. He can finally rest no”, she reportedly said.
