The Election Is Marred By Fraud And Violence – Bobi Wine

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has rejected the early results of the Presidential polls, which he described as a joke, and has faulted that the elections was marred by fraud and violence.
Following the voting, the 38-year-old former musician turned politician who has been the main rival to 76-year-old Museveni, took to Twitter to appreciate the efforts the people for turning up, saying the picture still looked good. “Hello Uganda! Despite the wide spread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today, the picture still looks good. Thank you Uganda for turning up and voting in record numbers. The challenge now is for Mr. Byabakama and the EC to declare the will of the Pple”, he tweeted, following an earlier complaint of not being able to receive or make calls, likewise his wife.
The nation’s electoral commission today, Friday announced that President Yoweri Museveni is leading in the elections which held on Thursday, going by the results which had come in from 29 percent of polling station. According to the commission, the President who’s been in power since 1986 and seeking a sixth term received 63 percent of ballots while Bobi Wine had 28 percent, though the final results are expected Saturday afternoon.Aljazeera, however, reported that today, Bobi Wine rejected the results announced by the electoral commission so far, and has claimed victory. “We secured a comfortable victory. I am very confident that we defeated the dictator by far. The people of Uganda voted massively for change of leadership from a dictatorship to a democratic government. But Mr. Museveni is trying to paint a picture that he is in the lead. What a joke!,” Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, said. He then reportedly he is considering peaceful and nonviolent protests over the declared results.

Meanwhile, the Ugandan internet space remained down for a third day as vote counting continued. Bobi Wine said he would detail election irregularities by the ruling party once the internet was restored. Earlier an election commission official responded to Bobi Wine’s accusations of fraud and violence saying: “Let him show the country in what manner, in what form the results are rigged.
On Friday morning the capital Kampala was quiet and some businesses remained closed, while soldiers and police patrolled on foot the day after the election. Full results are expected by Saturday afternoon.
