The famous competition which saw South Africa out of the AFCON 2019 game saw Samuel Chukwueze and Williams Troost Ekong sealing the 2-1 win for the country. While the South Africans tried to own their own with a single goal from Bongani Zungu, the goal and their defence were however not enough to secure their win. Check out the stats for the match below…Reacting to their loss, Legendary South African midfielder Helman Mkhalele revealed his nation’s defence was not strong enough as he said that: “I think we didn’t take the fighting spirit we showed when we defeated Egypt to the clash against Nigeria, I think the attitude to win the game against Nigeria was not there and I feel with our display, we lacked confidence and that’s basically how we lost the game.” Nigeria’s coach, Gernot Rohr, on the other hand, did not share Mkhaklele’s sentiment as he said: “We had a plan and we knew South Africa would find it hard to replicate their performance against Egypt so we had a slight advantage. We are happy with the win and now we must recover in time for our next opponents. The support from the home fans was fantastic but my players also showed good attitude and we played very well in the first half which also gave them something to cheer about.”Photo Credit: KOKO
