TBT: Five Fashion Items Your Favourite Nigerian Celebrities Rocked In 2009

The word celebrity itself is synonymous to trends and fashion, these people set the pace. In a country like Nigeria, once you gain popularity, you knowingly or unknowingly start influencing people, maybe the way they act, speak, think, see things and so many more. This fact is the reason why celebrities who are inclined to look good always try their best to create trends and set them. However, as we all know, trends come and go and for this feature, we would be looking at the fashion items your favourite, as per popularity, celebrities rocked ten years ago. Not just their favourite items, their get-ups that set trends and made us love not just the item but the way they rocked them.

Sunshades: When you think of sunshades now, you think of those cat-eyed looking fashion glasses that barely cover your eyes and you all now rock. Ten years ago, this was not the case, the sunshades were as dark as they came and very big, most of course.  Clear glasses: You must be thinking, clear glasses and sunshades, how come? As much as many of our favourite stars rocked sunshades, they also loved the clear glasses, Jim Iyke definitely had fun with this, and so did many big stars. Big Bangles: This was one fond memory for many female Nigerian celebrities. Lots of female stars flaunted these in the different outfits they rocked, it was almost like a ticket to stardom. Not just stars, many Nigerian females rocked this too, but remember what we said about trends? They set them! Hoop earrings: This definitely was a must-have item for many Nigerian female celebrities ten years ago. We loved how it looked on them, and even now while going through their photos, we still loved how utterly amazing they looked in them. Long neckpiece: Long neckpieces were a thing ten years ago and lots of these female stars rocked them to perfection. These neckpieces came in different colours and styles, some were beaded, some knitted and beaded, some were chains, some a mixture of one thing or the other, they basically were one of the fashion raves back then.

Tower hat: This is another fashion item 2009 “big boys” aka celebrities rocked. You hardly see a star without this cap, it basically was an identity flag for celebrities and this robbed off on aspiring Nigerian big boys.
