Taraba: Speaker Of The State House Of Aseembly Resigns, Anther Speaker Emerges

The speaker of the Taraba state House f Assembly, Joseph Kunini has resigned from his position, for personal reasons.

Normally, sitting begins by 10am but Wednesday’s session in which the former Speaker tendered his resignation, took place before the official plenary time.

John Kizito Bonzena, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Zing Constituency, is the new Speaker.

The letter of resignation of the former Speaker was read by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Hamman Adama of Daka State Constituency.

Adama, who presided over the emergency sitting, called for the nomination of the new Speaker, and members unanimously nominated and elected Bonzena as the new Speaker.

Kunini’s last official function was on Monday, when he presented the 2023 budget to the governor, Darius Ishaku, for his assent.

The political realignment that saw the former speaker resign his position is not yet clear, but rumour mills suggest that the latest permutations might be connected to the politicking of 2023.
