While Ukraine desires to join NATO, the military alliance which was formed in 1949 under the North Atlantic Treaty, an initiative designed to safeguard the freedom, common heritage, and civilization of the people, following the widespread destruction during World War II; Putin, on the other hand, doesn’t want Ukraine to be a part of NATO because if this happens, NATO would have access to his doorstep and he feels it would compromise the national security of Russia.

Are there better ways that Vladimir Putin could have handled this issue, are there steps he should have taken instead of following the path he chose, could Ukraine have been more understanding? So many questions but the fact remain that the Russia-Ukraine crisis is an invasion that should never have been; because war is never the answer. When there is war it’s usually the innocent citizens that bear the brunt of the war.

So far, the death toll in Ukraine keeps increasing day by day as destruction abounds because of the war. Russia on the other hand is having a Russian ruble and financial crisis as a result of the sanctions they have received from other nations like the UK, US, Taiwan, EU, Australia, Switzerland, etc. The Russia-Ukraine crisis is a double-edged sword that doesn’t bear good fruit. Although Putin came out to reveal that he invaded Ukraine not to occupy the nation but as a special military occupation and to demilitarize and neutralize the threat from their neighbouring country.
