The biggest rave of the moment in the Nigerian music industry is undeniably the fast-rising street pop artist and singer Habeeb Okikiola more popularly known as “Portable ZaZoo”.  The singer made a burst onto the music after dropping his hit single “ZaZoo Zeh”, which featured ace rapper and singer Olamide Baddo, the song also featured popular contemporary fast-feet dancer Poco Lee.Portable ZaZoo
Zazoo was the biggest song of Yuletide season, but the song wasn’t the only reason for Portable’s quick climb to fame.

However, his uncharacteristic street mafia persona and negative promotional tactics got him on the lips of almost all and every Nigerian pop music-loving public to be gripped by his unruly ways of either calling out his promoter or even the artist/dancer he featured on his song Poco Lee of trying to reap him by having his name on the Zazoo song as the main artist and he is placed on the song as the featured artist.
He also called out Poco Lee for giving him only six hundred dollars of the three thousand dollars that were sprayed on him on stage by Wizkid. A video was also released of his promoter Kogbagidi sending him away after he called out Poco Lee. Though, this was all later debunked by Portable and Kogbagidi as just promotional tactics which were all used to sell Portable and music more to the public. In truth, it worked.
But when it becomes their first resort tactics that’s when becomes either stale or ineffective, like the latest where Portable was seen fighting his boss and promoter Kogbagidi of reaping him and of stealing his car, this scandal hit public fanfare just a day or two before Portable’s new single “Ogo Forever” was released.
Well, the Nigerian public now knows better when next there is a scene where Portable is misbehaving or calling anyone out from within his camp, well you know what it is about and what to expect.
However, in truth, this is to discredit or undermine the genuine raw talent and ability of this young man. He has a blessed voice, with a unique pitch of dexterity that could easily make him a huge success as a “Fuji musician”, but he’s chosen to do a cross mixture of Fuji-pop, with loads of street limericks.

This uniqueness of Portable’s music puts him in good stead to do something special in the Nigerian music industry, that only if can toe the line right and stay hardworking carving a proper music niche and not just a persona alone for himself.
There are other singers who seem to be towing this genre of music, people like Mohbad, Seyi Vybez, and Bella Shmurda but they all still seem to be lacking in the celebrity persona to completely help them see through the cause, even though they’re all hugely talented singers, but this seems to be one that might just be able to completely put a mark on it with his audacious persona.
Yes, Habeeb Okikiola does seem like the real deal, not a one-hit-wonder, nor a flash in the pan but he is also an obvious work in progress, we wait to see how he metamorphoses.
