Nigeria Vs Argentina: “We Are Ambitious Underdogs” – Gernot Rohr

Gernot Rohr

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has assured the Nigerian football fan base that he is well aware of the pressure that will be on the Eagles when they go head to head with the Argentine national team on Tuesday evening at the Saint Petersburg stadium in Moscow.

Speaking in an interview with FIFA.com, Rohr said he is hoping to take the positives from their first two matches, to produce the much needed win against Argentina on Tuesday.

He said: “It’s always difficult when you lose your first match but we didn’t lose our good spirit or our optimism. We conceded two unfortunate goals against Croatia but we didn’t play badly. The team showed character after that.”
Speaking on Nigeria’s poor run against Argentina, Rohr said: “Runs like that have to come to an end at some point! We’re confident because we beat Argentina in a friendly last year. We were 2-0 down at half-time but went on to win 4-2. Lionel Messi didn’t play in that game but we scored four wonderful goals. That gives the boys hope. We’re ambitious underdogs; Argentina are definitely the favourites.”
