NDLEA: 404.9kg Of Marijuana Seized In Abuja

404.9kg of marijuana has been seized by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Peter Adegbe, the Spokesman of the FCT Command of the agency, told newsmen on Friday that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the contraband. The contraband was seized between Feb. 11 and 15.  The spokesman continued saying, 127.9 kg of the contraband was intercepted in Abuja, while his officials intercepted the other 173kg and 104kg at two separate incidents at Abaji on its way to Abuja. Adegbe revealed that the suspects have been charged to court adding that the agency is working hard to ensure Abuja is a drug-free zone. “These merchants of death are advised to give up the business or continue to experience losses and a date with jail,” he said.

NDLEA boss Sulyman Aliyu during a visit to Lagos state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, last year stated that the police must work hand in hand with the agency to tackle drug trafficking.

Imohiimi addressing newsmen said; “If you don’t come closer to the NDLEA, you may not know the kind of operations we do. “If you don’t come closer to the NDLEA, you may not know the kind of operations we do.

“If you are arresting people and the trend of drug abuse is not going down, then you look for another formula. It is only when you root out the major barons, who are the suppliers, that you will have peace. We have the intelligence and the police have the manpower. So, we can partner.”
