N2.2bn Fraud: Former Ekiti State Governor Fayose To Appear In Court Today

fayoseThe former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose faces trial over the N2.2bn fraud charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The trial commenced at the Federal High Court Lagos today November 19. Fayose who was arraigned with a firm, Spotless Limited, was granted bail in the sum of N50million on October 22nd 2018, before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun. The 11 count charges against the ex-governor borders on theft and money laundering. It is alleged that the sum of N1.299 billion and $5.3 million was allocated to him by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from N4.65 billion slush fund allegedly shared by ONSA. Fayose, however, denied this claim by the EFCC, he also denied any transaction with a former minister for state defence, Musiliu Obanikoro with respect to the $5.3 million.fayose Photo Credit: Getty
