Lagos Suspends Ifako Ijaye Chairman Over Misappropriation Of Funds

The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Chairman, Oloruntoba Oke over alleged administrative incompetence and misappropriation of funds.
This is as a result of the resolution reached by the House, following the report of a five-man ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the Local Government. According to the Committee Chairman, Rotimi Olowo, the need for the investigation arose when concerned residents of the Ifako-Ijaye LGA wrote a petition against the Chairman. The House also ordered the redeployment of the council-manager, treasurer and engineer, directing the Vice Chairman, Mr Usman Hamzat to take over immediately.Lagos Suspends Ifako-Ijaye Chairman Over Misappropriation Of Funds
Rotimi Olowo stated further that Oloruntoba Oke had gotten loans and paymwnt forthwith for some construction works but despite that,  work done were not commensurate to the projects executed. It was further alleged that a loan of N350 million taken in 2012 during Oke’s first term in office was not appropriately expended.

In addition, the House pointed out that Oke has failed to abide by the administrative guidelines stipulated by the State Assembly in 2011. In his comment, the Deputy Majority Leader, Muyiwa Jimoh said, “the error created was as a result of the bureaucracy in local government and failed to abide by the administrative guidelines set up by the House.”Photos Credit: Getty
