KOKO TV’s Monthly Initiative: 4 Reason Why Good Education Is Synonymous To Societal Growth And Development

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves. In most society the very first place of contact and learning for any child is the home, his\her immediate family which is called Informal Education. The kind of educational values taught at home is what the child carries on to school or in his learnings within Formal educational system and that in somewhat goes a long way to determine the child’s level of receptiveness and Open-mindedness to learn new things. Education has always had a strong connection to what happens in every society, the skills learnt passed from one generation to the next, and the continuity of such values. There are two forms of education which are Formal and Informal education, Formal education is commonly divided formally into such stages as preschool or kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and then college, university, or apprenticeship. A right to Formal education has been recognised by some governments and the United Nations. In most regions, Formal education is compulsory up to a certain age. In this article, we intend to discuss how good education helps the growth of a society and how it leads to the eradication of poverty and better standard of living in the country;

  1. “Good Education Produces Great Teachers”: Any society that takes its educational values in high regards, then it would understand the values of well educated good students who in turn become great teachers. The great Nigerian Afrobeat Musician Fela Anikulapo, said their are no bad students only bad teachers. If those who are charged with the job of educating the next generation lacks good education and the true understanding of the values they teach, then the next generation and the future of such society are doomed, Because its this teachers that would the new generation of politicians why education is of paramount importance, he would also teach them why every policy the politician intends to implement the people should be its central focus, the teacher would also teach The Next generation of Doctors the true values of their profession why a saving an human is more important that the money reward you intend to make of it, or he would teach a policeman that even if the system you work in bent corrupt stand for a particular value and push to serve and not be financially driving in his job etiquette.
  2. “Good Education Produces Innovators and Problem-solvers: One of the core values of education in any society is to produce problem-solvers and innovators, by learning the tenacity to create new or the ability to re-create and redefine old ideas in new ways that fits the modern situation keeps the society afloat, like the inventor Thomas Edison he said and i quote “Nothing is new but borne of the old at solving modern problems but none of it can be well understood without knowledge of the old at understanding the new” innovation helps society to grow and develop to its highest capacity but not without good education.
  3. Good Education Produces Great Leaders: In societies where human morals and values are thought with history of its society in the best possible ways, such society would produce some of the best leaders because it has educated such leaders of what is important and should be held in high regards, the understanding of how the society works, what needs are meant to be met for the growth and development of its people, and how to implement ideologies, values and principles that future leaders could build on and use as benchmark for further development of the society.
  4. Good Education Produces Job Creators and Employment: Good education helps to produce job creators because they have received, or learnt skills that are of demand or that can be used to create news jobs or more jobs for the society at large. Photo Credit: Getty
