Domestic abuse, also known as domestic violence, intimate partner abuse, spousal abuse, intimate partner violence and dating violence is best described as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, threatening, degrading and inflicting physical injuries on an individual by another individual or group of individuals.
Domestic abuse takes many forms to include emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, or economic abuse and is mostly witnessed in an intimate relationship where one partner uses every means available to him to degrade or control the other person. There are types of domestic abuse which includes physical, verbal (also called emotional, mental, or psychological abuse), sexual, economic/financial, and spiritual abuse.
Cases where pinching, pushing, hitting, or slapping choking, shooting, stabbing, and murder, are categorised as physical violence. While verbal, emotional, mental, or psychological abuse are the kinds of abuse where words are put to use to ensure to demean and criticise the other person in the intimate relationship.Domestic abuse has for a long time lived been condoned in the homes of millions across the globe with an estimated 6 out of 10 household having to deal with this toxicity. Some victims have nursed it in silence, while others literally suffered from it in broad daylight.
This month KOKO Group takes a stand against the beastly act. We will be highlighting and discussing this deep topic from the perspective of abused victims all over the world (Women) as it is about time to put an end to domestic abuse. #SayNoToDomesticAbuse.
