“It’s Very Bitter And Also Just Pathetic” – Germany Stars React To World Cup Exit

Germany’s shock defeat against South Korea is a day to forget for the players.

The 2014 World Cup winners were eliminated in group stage of this summer’s tournament in Russia, after their 2-0 defeat to South Korea at the Kazan Arena, as Sweden proceed to last-16 along with Mexico who came second in Group F. “I think that all of us weren’t up for it and did not have the absolute will to show that we wanted to tear something down here at the World Cup,” Germany captain Manuel Neuer said.

“Even if it had worked out today it would have been over for us in the knock-out phase in the next game or the game after. We did not deserve it, it has to be said very clearly… We are responsible. It’s very bitter and also just pathetic.”

Midfielder Toni Kroos whose injury-time volley to earn the Germans a win over Sweden believes there’s a need for change, saying: “It was always the case in the past that tournaments were a time for a change.”  “We are all stunned. We have to digest this first and make sure we don’t break too much glass,” Bayern Munich forward, Thomas Mueller adds as he fought back tears on the pitch after the final whistle. Midfielder Sami Khedira also admits this is one of the most difficult moments for the team.
