INEC Set New Dates For Kebbi, Adamawa Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a new date for the gubernatorial elections in Adamawa and Kebbi State as its been scheduled to hold Saturday, April 15th, 2023.

The gubernatorial election in both states were ruled inconclusive by INEC because the cancelled votes were more than the margin of victory between the candidates.

Incumbent governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be opposed by All Progressives Congress candidate (APC), Aisha Binani Dahiru.

Recall that the incumbent governor polled 421,524 votes while Binani polled 390,275 votes. Fintiri was in the lead before the election was declared inconclusive.

In Kebbi State, the governorship election was declared inconclusive. The two leading political parties in this contest, APC and PDP, polled 388,258 and 342,980 votes respectively. The different in margin stands at 45,278 votes.

However, INEC, in a tweet on its verified Twitter handle on Monday said the inconclusive governorship elections and the National and State Assembly supplementary elections would be held on 15 April.
“Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023.

“A detailed official statement will follow shortly,” INEC said.
