Major skin problems have arisen from bad and poor diet control. In these days or modernization and urbanization, there are a lot of substitutes for healthy foods. However, here are the major ones you need to avoid;
1.Whole Sugar/processed sugar: Sugar can be found in large doses in most refined carbohydrates. these processed sugar, feed the unhealthy bacteria located in the gut which then causes skin inflammations. The bad bacteria also increase oil production and can permanently cause the skin age faster. It is best that when purchasing a processed food, the diet information should be cross-checked to rule out any form of sugar that may most times be given other names such as glucose-fructose.
2.Spicy foods:Â Believe it or not, spicy foods can also cause serious skin problems. This is because acne and other inflammatory skin conditions are signs of excess heat in the body. Consuming too much of hot spicy foods can lead to permanent skin damage.
3. Alcohol: Alcohol contains large amounts of sugar and this is unhealthy for the skin. It causes a rise in the blood level and also reduces the production of collagen which helps repair skin tissues. It is also a fast way of dehydrating the skin.
4. Processed meat: Processed meat contain a lot of salt. Salt is sodium sulphate and in excess, it leads to water retention and can cause swelling and puffiness in your face. It can also break down collagen and elastin and cause premature ageing.
5. Dairy milk: For all dairy milk lovers, this may come as a bad news. This food contains some growth hormones, which may interfere with and disrupt the balanced hormones in the body. Most especially the estrogen which when produced in excess can lead to cystic acne. It is also shown to be a clogging food that congests the skin and liver.
6. Soy Milk: Excess intake of soy as a substitute for dairy can disrupt hormonal balance, and lead to excess estrogen in the body if you aren’t deficient in estrogen. it is best to stick to nut milk, if available.
7. Caffeine: High intake of caffeine can increase your cortisol levels, which can impact your skin by causing inflammation. Cortisol is the hormone released by the adrenal glands. It is the main hormone involved in stress and the fight-or-flight response. This is a natural and protective response to a perceived threat or danger. Increased levels of cortisol result in a burst of new energy and strength.
8.Nuts:Â Nuts produce his level of omega-6 essential fatty oil. Omega-6s are a pro-inflammatory nutrient that can trigger acne flare-ups and other skin conditions. Nuts in this category include; Brazil nuts and walnuts. Rather than damage your skin with these nuts, you can substitute with cashew nuts and hazel nuts.
