Aisha Yesufu has predicted what is most likely to happen to her if her husband was against her fighting for Nigeria or tries to stop her voice, as many social media trolls and religious and cultural psychopath hoped.
During the exclusive session with KOKO TV’s Adenike Sobo and Emmanuel Ajide, Aisha Yesufu revealed that her husband, who now calls himself her manager and bodyguard, is a practising feminist and one who believes in the rights of women.“There is no two ways to go about it. My husband is a very supportive person, he has always been my teacher, my mentor. He’s my number one fan, recently, he now calls himself my manager, and also bodyguard. So I am very certain I know where he stands. I have a man who is a human being and a feminist. I tell people one practicing feminist that I know is my husband. He believes in the rights of women, he believes in women having their voices heard. In 1997 when we started going out together and were planning our marriage, the first thing he said to me was “you need to be financially independent, you need to be able take care of yourself, you need to have a voice of your own, whatever happens you need to be able to take care of your needs, to be able to hold yourself“, she said.

When asked if he never gets afraid of losing her as a result of activism, Aisha Yesufu noted that there surely are moments of fright but her husband knows she is who she is, and if he tries to stop her voice, she might die before her time. “Of course, there are issues of fear in case of death, but he knows the fact that this is who I am, this is how I have always been. If he tries in anyway to curtail that voice, I probably will die before my time. He knows this is a voice that can’t be stopped, he knew all along the kind of person that I am”, she said.
