France Clears Embassy Staff, Allied Citizens From Sudan

France has begun a “rapid evacuation operation” of citizens and diplomatic personnel from Sudan, according to its foreign ministry.

Citizens of “European and allied partner” countries would be included, according to the ministry.

It comes as US government personnel and Iraqi diplomats are evacuated from embassies in Khartoum, as well as Saudi officials’ first evacuations of civilians from Qatar, Egypt, Canada, India, Burkina Faso, and the United Arab Emirates.

Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) resumed despite a 72-hour truce declared for the Muslim holiday of Eid.
