Emma Raducanu Wins BBC Sports Personality Of The Year 2021

Emma Raducanu has been crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2021.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an astonishing breakout year in tennis as she won the US Open and became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977.

Raducanu was sitting her A-levels in economics and maths just two months before making her debut at Wimbledon earlier this year.

In her first-ever appearance at a major tournament, Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.

She went on to deliver a dominant display in her next Grand Slam event as she did not lose a set on her way to winning the US Open.

Tom Daley came second in the vote, while Adam Peaty took third place. Tyson Fury, Raheem Sterling and Dame Sarah Storey were also nominated for the award.

‘I honestly don’t feel like I deserve it,’ Brown said after receiving her award.
