Nigerian producer and the CEO, Supreme Mavins Dynasty, Don Jazzy has slammed the exorbitant spending of the National Assembly on allowances and aides, querying the need for the many aides each legislator has.
This is coming as a reply to the Pro-Poor Budget analysis of inequality in national spending carried out by Nigeria’s Civic tech organisation, BudgIT Nigeria, which shows that the 2019 Nigerian budget allocates 125 billion naira to National Assembly and only 52.63 billion naira to 104 Federal unity schools.
Sharing a design picture of the analysis, BudgIT wrote on the microblogging site, “WHEN WILL THIS END? 1 in every 5 of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. The truth: lack of proper funding is killing our education system. Did you even know? The capital budget for 43 federal universities is just N6.11bn. But @NGRSenate is to buy N5.5bn SUVs.“

The music producer then followed suit, to pour out his mind and lash the nation for spending so much on inessentials, querying the number of the senators’ aides and why they should be on the government payroll.
Don Jazzy tweeted, “Thanks @BudgITng. There are 469 legislative seats in the National Assembly. Can someone make me understand why these legislators need many aides to work for them and why they should be on the govt’s payroll? How long should we continue spending on inessentials? #Voiceofthedon. That’s the reason why Nigerian universities are not even amongst Africa top 10. Our giant of Africa na mouth.“
