On Saturday Afternoon August 15 2020, American music mogul Diddy took to his Twitter handle to pen down an open statement declaring that he served as the Executive Producer of Burna’s Boy’s new album, Twice as Tall while also thanking the African Giant of giving him the opportunity to finally reconnect with the motherland. In a Twitter thread, he wrote of how much he had wanted to do this trying to connect with the motherland properly that Burna’s album gave him the opportunity to do that in a very soulful spiritual way. Read his statement in full below;

“Dear Africa, you have been heavy on my mind and my heart … I’ve been trying to connect to the motherland for a minute, but I never got a chance to do it properly. When I say properly, I mean in a soulful spiritual way.
“But during this time we’ve had off, God blessed me to get a call from my brother @BurnaBoy. He’s the first African artist I’ve been blessed to work with and he didn’t know this but at the time I was praying to God to bring something to me that would help to bring us all together through music.
“I think it’s so important we all make it our mission to build a bridge to the motherland. Let’s continue to uplift and build with our brothers and sisters. It’s what THEY fear the most… Strength in numbers. Love, your brother Diddy. See y’all soon! #BlackUnity #TWICEASTALL.”

Diddy’s voice could be heard on 3 songs on the album. Diddy’s endorsement will go a long way in getting Twice As Tall to the dreamland of a Grammy win.

Though Diddy has been criticised by some Nigerian social commentator saying Diddy shouldn’t make his work with Burna boy sound like he was giving back or trying to actually reconnect with Africa rather it was just a business move because Africa Afrobeat is currently the talk of music across the world and Africa is a huge market. He said to spare the hypocrisy.
