Coronavirus: Rushing To Buy Face Masks Is Unnecessary – Mamora

The Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora has declared the high demand and purchase of face masks by Nigerians’ to prevent the spread of Coronavirus unnecessary.
Mamora noted this during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily today, as he reacts to the reports and cries of the hike in the prices of the personal protective equipment  mostly, face masks and hand sanitizers across the country.Coronavirus: Rushing To Buy Face Masks Is Unnecessary - Mamora
According to Mamora the rush and the fear to propelling the purchase the face mask most importantly is totally unnecessary if there are no people around manifesting the symptoms of the deadly virus. He added that the face mask is only necessary for people who are sneezing, coughing, and want to protect the people around them.

You see, the face mask that people are struggling to buy, I tell you it’s not very necessary where you don’t have a candidate (I won’t say a patient now) that is not manifesting symptoms – sneezing. The face mask is really meant for a person who is sneezing, coughing, and wanting to protect others around him/her. That is what the face mask is for, and for people who are in caregiving centres. These are the people that need face masks. People should not allow themselves to be exploited unduly“, he said.Coronavirus: Rushing To Buy Face Masks Is Unnecessary - MamoraGiving an update on the condition of the Italian tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus, Mamora disclosed that about 157 passengers were on the plane in which the patient travelled. and the government has been able to trace six of the people he had contact with at the hotel he lodged in Lagos and 34 others at Lafarge cement plant in Ogun.
“So, put together, about 100 contacts have been identified and being followed up through what we call Supervised Self Isolation”, he added.
