A new political group, Coalition for a New Nigeria (CNN), has emerged with a common agenda to field a consensus candidate in the presidential election in 2019. A total of 15 registered political parties, including Labour Party, Alliance for Democracy (AD), National Conscience Party (NCP), and 12 others has formed the coalition. The new coalition, according its proponents, promises to shield Nigeria from politics of ‘stomach infrastructure.’ The coalition in statement signed by Abdulsalam Salam, observed that governance in Nigeria is “bedeviled with policy somersault, rule of might and abuse of public trust.”Other members of the coalition are Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC), Action Alliance (AA), Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), Young Democratic Parry (YDP), Democratic Alternative (DA), People for Democratic Change (PDC), United Democratic Party (UDP) and National Action Congress (NAC).It would be recalled that the current party in power can attribute its success to a coalition of its own – Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) – which gave it enough to challenge the seemingly invisible PDP at the time.Photo Credit: Getty
