Being Body-shamed Affected Me As A Kid So I Decked Up To Cover My Flaws — Singer Omawumi

Singer Omawumi is opening up on the body-shaming culture in society and the impact it had on her life in her adult years. The singer took to her Instagram page to share a headshot of herself and revealed that growing up she was heavily bullied while growing up for how she looked.

Singer OmawumiOmawumi explained that as a child she was called “hammerheaded, Ogorstina because of her head and even families members prayed that one day she would turn out a beautiful woman. The vocal powerhouse noted that there was a time when those words affected her self-esteem and she couldn’t step out of the house without being decked in heavy makeup to hide her flaws. The mother of 2 shared that today she has learnt to love herself and every piece of her and her flaws and even though she covers them up once in a while she will no longer let people’s perception of her influence her decisions.
