Afenifere: Tinubu Should Seek For My Forgiveness For What He Did In The Past – Adebanjo

The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo has asked the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek for his forgiveness.

This comes following claims that he endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, over a long-lasting disagreement with Tinubu.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday night, the Afenifere leader said he has not offended the former Governor of Lagos State, adding that Tinubu can’t say he has offended him.

The elder statesman claimed that Tinubu betrayed Afenifere years ago, stressing that the APC candidate should be the one to approach him and seek his forgiveness for what he did in the past.

He said: “I want to correct you and stop talking about forgiving Bola Tinubu. It is Bola Tinubu who should ask me to forgive him for betraying the organisation. How can he say I have offended him when that’s not the basis on which he was elected”

Adebanjo stated further that the main issue right now for Afenifere is specifically towards ensuring Obi’s success, and not about focusing on who has been offended or not.

According to the elder statesman, Obi’s endorsement is based on the principles of equity as the South-East has not produced a president since the return of democracy in 1999.

The Afenifere leader stressed that since the South-West and South-South have produced the president, it is the turn of the South-East.

“South-South has had its own and I said it is remaining the South-East,” he said.

Recall that Tinubu met with the former leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at his Akure residence on Sunday, stirring reactions from Nigerians.
