Abba Kyari Contracted Coronavirus After Official Trip To Europe

The late Abba Kyari, former chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus days after returning from an official trip to Germany and the UK.

On March 24, 2020, it was made public that Kyari tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, following an official trip to Germany nine days before.

It was also reported that Kyari has underlying medical conditions, and was secretly flown out of the country but he later rejected these claims, and was moved from Abuja to Lagos. He died on Friday 17th April, 2020 as a result of the virus.


Media reports indicates that Abba Kyari ran the test on the weekend of the 22nd March based on medical advice, although he was not exhibiting any symptoms.

The result came back on Monday 23rd March positive and he went into isolation even though the symptoms are yet to manifest. Following his result, Buhari was also advised to run a test but he was negative. Photo Credit: Getty
