This in no way means the year is that of problems but it is revealing the evil that reside in men and how much of effects the evils are and will be having on the future!
Parents struggle to raise their kids in a nation that has no support system whatsoever – not even palliatives or emergency financial aid in the hard times of Corona, only for some to weep over them and consoling themselves in faith and hopes of ‘God knows best.’ Many of the deceased must have made promises, have high hopes and set records breaking and setting goals but were cut short and never allowed fulfilment, simply because of just one person or some people’s acts.
At the beginning of the year, we looked at 5 Victims Of Nigerian Police And SARS Brutality In 2019 and today, we are counting our loses again, looking at 5 Nigerian youngsters whose lives have been taken away, just five months into the new year. There must have been a whole lot of such situations but here are 5 that are shaking the nation currently.
Rinji Bala: the 300-level student of History and International Studies of the University of Jos History and International Studies, UNIJOS was killed by a solider of the Nigerian Army, attached to the special task force (STF), Operation Safe Haven (OPSH). He was arrested alongside others for violating the lockdown order and with an accusation that they are cultists. When heard out, he and his friend were set free but unfortunately on their way out of the station, Rinji was gunned down by the soldier and his claim was that he thought the young man was running away.
Kadade Abdullahi: pointing out that his parents trust and gives preferential treatment to Kadade, his brother, Ibrahim had, on the 21st of March hired some assassins to murder Kadade at their home in Kaduna around 11.30pm. It is such a sad story that a young man could employ the services of some killers for his brothers.
Tina: 16-year-old Tina was simply a victim of Police’s love for pulling the trigger and unfortunately, her life couldn’t be redeemed. Tina was on a public bus around Iyana Oworo when the driver was accosted by a Police officer for violation the curfew order. As the two males argue, the Police officer pulled the trigger and gunned down Tina. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, the efforts could not redeem the damage the Policeman did to the youngster.
Vera Uwaila Omozuwa: Uwa is the latest reason rape allegations have been made recently and stands against the vile act has been made. She was raped in her church (RCCG, Benin) where she had gone to read by some unknown men. As if the violation was not enough, she was said to have been bashed on the head with a fire extinguisher gotten from the church and left for dead, all these happened on Wednesday 27th May and despite making it to the hospital alive, Uwa died on Saturday 30th May.
Barakat: Barakat’s rape and death case is a mouth-shutter for people who blame rape on the choice of clothes women wear in the society. The hijabite student of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training IAR&T in Ibadan, Oyo State, Bello Barakat, was said to be assaulted and stabbed to death on Monday, June 1st after she resisted an attempted rape by a gang armed robbers. If women get raped because of their revealing dressing, what do we say of Barakat, who covers up every strand of her hair and only leaves her fingers, face and feet to see the light of the day?
