37 FRSC Officials Arrested Over Extortion Of Motorists On Highway

37 Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC officials, alongside five other identified as agents of the corps officials, have been arrested by a joint inter-agency team over alleged extortion of motorists on highways.

This was made known by the spokesman of the Commission, Rasheedat Okoduwa, in a statement released after the arrest. She noted that 13 FRSC officials and two civilians were arrested in Aba in the South-east while 24 other FRSC officials and three civilians were arrested from various spots on roads spread across the other geo-political zones.

The ICPC-led team, consisting officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC, FRSC and the Department of State Security, DSS carried out the sting operation simultaneously in the six geo-political zones of the country after it received a complaint of massive extortion of money from motorists on the highways by FRSC patrol teams from the management of the Corps.

The complaint noted that the incidents are more peculiar in six states of the federation, and following the operation, the team identified the notorious spots in each of the states to include Aba, Ahoada, Ajaokuta, Itori, Torro and Gwantu in Abia, Rivers, Kogi, Ogun, Bauchi and Kaduna States respectively.37 FRSC Officials Arrested Over Extortion Of Motorists On Highway KOKOTV.NGREAD ALSO: Isn’t This Just Wrong? All the officials arrested, and three civilian accomplices have been granted administrative bail and will be prosecuted by the Commission at the conclusion of investigations.
