 The Ogun state police command has arrested a 21-year old woman, Amudalat Taiwo, who threw her 12-day old baby into a pit latrine due to her inability to take care of the baby. According to reports, the incident occurred on June 20, at 28, Isheri Street, Ilaro. Amudalat’s husband, identified as Taiwo Owolabi, was learnt to have abandoned her after she gave birth. Amudalat, is said to have 5 kids already.  Amudalat was arrested after her landlord Oshunshina Olawale, reported her after one of his tenant’s heard the cries of a baby inside the pit toilet when she visited. The toilet was later broken and the baby rescued. Amudalat upon interrogation confessed to committing the crime, claiming that she was an orphan. She attributed her inability to care for the baby as her reason for throwing it into a pit latrine. The baby is presently in a stable condition at the Stella Obasanjo motherless baby home in Abeokuta and Amudalat’s husband has also been arrested for failure to provide necessary needs for the mother and the child.  Photo Credit: Getty
