2018 World Cup Players Are Not Happy, Says Croatia Legend

Davor Suker explains why 2018 World Cup favourites bowed out in the early stages of the tournament.

Former Croatia international, Davor Suker believes football stars aren’t happy with the hectic footballing schedule, while FIFA and UEFA are busy looking for ways to make big money from television rights and more. “Something is happening with the favourites,” said the Croatian, who is now president of the FA in his country.

“I’m thinking about Germany, Argentina and Spain and at FIFA and UEFA, we must check if we can reduce the number of games.”

World Cup holders, Germany were eliminated at the group stage, while Spain, Argentina and Portugal all joined them after the last-16, recording just one win each from four games. Suker continued: ”We have so many games, friendly matches, the League of Nations and I know that money and television rights are important but we must reduce the number of games.” “You may be playing in Baku and then have to return to play in Munich, the players aren’t happy with these trips.”
