If you’re a lover of the arts and crafts, and the beauty of Africa presented in small tokens, souvenirs and memorabilia, then you definitely deserve to travel and gift yourself a visit to the Artisanal Market In Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
From the main city, the market is just about 30-35 minutes drive. The market itself is a sprawling building that for a market is constructed quite aptly. Note that there’s a difference between art markets and galleries.
The building complex is separated into five sections; there’s the sliver work section, the bronze, the paintings, woodwork and of course the fabric section. During my years as an undergraduate, a friend, who was studying Fine and Applied Arts (major in Fabric) used to travel monthly to Burkina Faso to sell his fabrics and clothing.
In this interesting market, you’ll find over 400 to 500 artists and craftsmen plying their trade and art. There’s a flood of creativity bursting through this market. If you’re an impulse buyer, you’re likely to spend much more than you have initially bargained for.

You’ll also find workshops with a wide array of handmade items. There’s also an interesting collection of perfumes, pottery, jewelry and more. Interestingly, you can also test your artistic skill in a number of workshops here.
