A Moment We Want To Put Behind Us – Iniesta On Julen Lopetegui Sacking

Julen Lopetegui was sacked by Spain as Fernando Hierro takes over just 24 hours before the World Cup began.

Barcelona legend and Spain playmaker at this year’s World Cup tournament, Andres Iniesta has admitted that sacking of Lopetegui – who has been unveiled as Real Madrid’s new manager – was not comfortable for the players. “It was a moment that we want to put behind us, it was not comfortable for anyone and we are concentrated on what we have ahead,” he explained.

“Our conviction over what we were doing and what we will do is what we need to concentrate on. The match against Portugal was not easy and the team showed that we know what we are doing.”

Spain recorded a 3-3 draw against Portugal in their Group B opener, and the team now managed by Fernando Hierro aim for three points when they face Iran tonight, to keep their WC dream alive.

“I don’t want to stop there though and we need to keep going, Iran will not be easy but if we win we will be in a very good position,” Iniesta adds.

“It is a dream to win the World Cup again, we are aware of how difficult it is but we need to concentrate on smaller steps and the game against Iran.”
