15 INEC Officials Walk Free From Corruption Allegations

Fifteen Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials among the 205 INEC staff accused of receiving and sharing the sum of N3,046,829,000 during the 2015 general election have been set free from the corruption allegation. According to report making rounds, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who dismissed the corruption allegation against the 15 official wrote to the Chairman of the electoral commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu to reinstate the 15 officials who were suspended.While speaking on the matter, an INEC source explained: “We can only use them as prosecution witnesses because there is no case against them. They tried to avoid the dirty deals,” adding that “What we have succeeded in doing is to prove that our probe of the bribery scam was not a witch-hunt at all.”Photo Credit: Getty
