President Muhammadu Buhari assures Nigerians that they are not losing sleep over the recent Sokoto killings and several others across the country.
The 32 persons killed during the attack by gunmen in Gandi village and nearby communities of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State were buried on Wednesday. “This wanton violence against innocent people won’t be tolerated by this government, we are working round the clock to identify the people sponsoring these heartless attacks,” Buhari said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
“It is curious why any group of mass murderers would be targeting and killing innocent people for no just reason.
“Make no mistake about it, my administration remains committed to security as one of its core objectives, and any attempt to test our will by troublemakers will be met with equal force.”
Buhari on Wednesday received South Africa President, Cyril Ramaphosa, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting came amid increasing cases of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, and the two Presidents discussed a wide range of bilateral, continental and global issues of common concern. On identifying the people behind the recent Sokoto killings, Buhari adds: “Identifying and defeating these callous killers is receiving priority from this administration, and we shall spare no effort in tracing the root of this evil, especially their sources of funding and arms. “I wish to assure Nigerians that security is receiving the greatest attention from this administration and there is no compromise in this commitment.”
