Real Madrid are reportedly offering £110million plus Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric for PSG star Neymar.
The Spanish giants are still to replace talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, and with Gareth Bale well out of favour, a marquee signing is needed this summer. And Spanish news-site Sport is reporting that Los Blancos are close to completing the sensational switch for the wantaway Brazilian.
But there is one major stumbling block – the player himself is keen on a return to his old club and Real’s big rivals Barcelona. And the Catalan giants are expected to be pressed into action now Real Madrid have made their move.
Neymar is believed to have been offered to both Juventus and Manchester United by PSG, who seem to have accepted that their temperamental Brazilian is heading off. Speculation that Real could move for Neymar has continued into this summer having begun almost as soon as he signed for PSG.
In both his seasons at the club he has missed the run-in through injury, providing space for Kylian Mbappe to become the darling of Paris – a role Neymar felt was destined for him. Unhappy in Ligue 1, the Brazilian formally asked to leave before jetting off to this summer’s Copa America with Brazil.
Once again, injury struck and he missed that tournament. The two parties failed to reconcile while Neymar was away and Barcelona worked hard to put together a deal to sign him. However their players-plus-cash offers, involving the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic and Samuel Umtiti failed to attract PSG. But despite Barca signing Antoine Griezmann for £108m this summer, they are certain to want to bring Neymar “home” from his French jaunt.
