Nigerian Immigration Service Suspends Issuance Of New Passports Until June

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the suspension of issuance of new passports and renewal of old ones across the country. The Controller General of Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede made the announcement today while decorating newly promoted NIS senior officials.

Yarima said all new passports and renewals will be suspended until June 1, 2021. He also urged all passport control offices to make use of the period to ensure it clear all outstanding passport processing. The directive is to enable the commission to clear all backlogs of applications sequel to the commencement of the new passport regime on 1st June 2021.

Consequently, upon the foregoing, all PCOs are therefore directed to utilize this period 17th May to 31st May to ensure that all backlogs are produced and handed over to command comptrollers for collection by members of the public, a part of the statement read.
