UFC president Dana White has been talking up a potential fourth bout, something that has never been seen before in the sport.
But after shattering his leg, McGregor will need at least a year to recover before even thinking about returning to the Octagon.
There is a long path ahead for Notorious but as he looks set for a spell on the sidelines, he has never been one to act modestly with his money. In his latest Instagram post to his 41m followers, he posted a picture of his newest yacht.

A collaboration between Lamborghini and Italian boat manufacturer Tecnomar, the boat has attracted plenty of attention due to its sleek design. McGregor captioned the post: “My Lamborghini yacht is ready.”
Speaking before his loss to Poirier, the 33-year-old said: “Obviously, with financial freedom, I can acquire the best of the best regarding condition and strength training. I just look after myself and my team, I can do anything. I can do anything I want on this planet.”
When asked about his best purchase ever made, McGregor had one answer.
He added: “I would say my Lamborghini yacht, it is currently in Italy.
“It is ready for post-fight so it is going to have a bit of work done then I am going to Italy to christen my son with my family and friends and then pick up my yacht.
“It is some vessel, I am looking forward to getting in it and razzing it around.”
Whether McGregor fights again remains to be seen after another bruising defeat in UFC, his third in his last four spread across three years, while Floyd Mayweather also beat him in a much-hyped boxing match.
Gone are the days when the Dubliner would take on opponents on a regular basis with every clash involving him a media frenzy. And while McGregor can point to the fact that his loss to Poirier was through a doctor’s stoppage, the American was well on top prior to that call.
All three judges had the Diamond up on their scorecards as the Proper 12 businessman took a pummeling. As McGregor went in full stretch for one last punch before the bell rang for the first round, all of his weight went onto his ankle. It saw the bone snap in a gruesome but dramatic end with the Irishman unable to stand with his foot twisted the wrong way.
“This is not over,” he claimed after referee Herb Dean was informed the fight could not go on. “If I have to take this outside with him, it’s all outside. I don’t give a b******s. Your wife is in my DMs. Hey baby. Hit me back up, I’ll chat to you later.”
