Manchester United ‘Out Of Race To Sign Erling Haaland As Player Prefers Real Madrid’

Manchester United are no longer in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer.

According to reports, the Norwegian star has his sights set on a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, leaving United ready to switch focus to other attacking targets.

The 21 year-old is expected to leave Dortmund this summer, with the €75 million release cause in his contract becoming active at the end of this campaign, and has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

However, Real Madrid are keen to recruit both Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of next season and senior figures at United are not in a position to convince Haaland or his advisors that Old Trafford is an option.

Sources suggest that Haaland is an admirer of interim manager Ralf Rangnick, and the notable work he has done at his previous clubs in Germany.

Yet, the idea of joining the Red Devils while there remains uncertainty at the club and potentially with no Champions League football next year, has made United an unappealing proposition.

United failed to sign Haaland from FC Salzburg when he moved to Dortmund in January 2020, but look set to miss out again with only Manchester City as competition for Madrid to snap up the forward, who has scored 22 goals in 19 games so far this season.

With Cristiano Ronaldo 37 next month, Edinson Cavani out of contract and likely to leave at the end of the season, and a probable summer exit for Antony Martial, a search for a proven goalscorer remains a summer remit for United and their recruitment team.
